Latest News Award winning Artillery team presented with prize

Shrapnel's Battery is a group of enthusiasts who represent a picture of 18th. Century life in the British Royal Artillery, dressed in authentic uniform and using equipment modelled on the original.

Our bombardiers and gunners provide the public with the chance to experience the firing of a muzzle loading cannon or mortar, and smell black powder being burnt.

Some of our Battery Officers lecture and give demonstrations in schools and museums on a wider field of military history,  such as the development of castles through the ages. Our guns are also used to start races of all sorts

We are perhaps better known for accompanying some of the world's most famous Symphony Orchestras around the country when we play Tchaikovsky's '1812 overture', or Beethoven's 'Battle Symphony'.
